There’s an unspoken belief system that’s been embedded into our subconscious, “we must not speak on the tragedy of poor mental health”, but what happens when the whole world has lost it? When the majority is in need of help and still feel the need to be silent about it? If everyone won’t admit it, we have all silently decide our fate. Shamed into solitary, when is the right time to say the words out loud…I need help, this is overwhelming or simply put, I don’t feel well.

The pressure of keeping up with the world has not formed diamonds but rather hidden depression amongst communities that don’t make room for the conversation. Grin and bear it, but don’t let them see you down. Hidden emotions, that always seem to peak and make its way to the surface at the wrong time and when the levy breaks sometimes the damage is beyond repairable.

Create an outlet #PushBack

Creating outlets for stress is your personal responsibility. This task goes beyond therapy, church or everything people may give you as an option for healing. What work will YOU do? Only you know what truly lies below the surface so the remedy is in your hands. Writing, music, dance, painting or even any physical activity can help to get you grounded and create room for you to express yourself.

The process of creating a routine to combat your depression/anxiety is not easy and requires levels of grace that you may have never experienced with SELF. Step outside your comfort zone and try something you’ve never done before.

This process isn’t about what people will think of you or in most cases the opinion of your friends/family. Applying mindfulness to your journey opens the gate for discovery. Deciding what makes you feel good? or what does not? and allowing your feelings to guide you towards more activities that support where you are today. These concepts may change over time but as you start you should expect growth. Things that felt good yesterday may not feed the need for today and it’s nothing wrong with that.

The prescription activity

Track your energy, create a log in your notes when you notice you are feeling good or less than good for 2 weeks straight. Applying mindfulness, begin to pay attention to what your energy boosters are and recognize what drains you. As time goes on, you’ll be able to see things coming at you before it arrives and create ways to take your power back from situations that normally deplete you.

This process paired with an activity that balances your energy will allow you to measure your energy and progress while combating negative emotions that plague you on the daily basis. Stay 10 steps ahead and create your own remedy #KeepGoing
