The ebb and flow of adversity builds a tolerance to change that the average person may not understand. In survival mode you are forced to survive with the flow of your environment; end result, you become adaptable to any environment. People often misinterrupt this as being fake, detached or unreadable. Truth is the disadvantages of my upbringing has allowed me to “read the room”, because historically failure to due so could impact my safety.

Looking for the God in my situation is what allowed me to switch my perspective from “why me?” to “Try me!” when I saw the value of my experiences, I begin to look at life’s challenges as a chance for spiritual growth, no need to dwell on what happened in the past unless I am learning what I took from that situation; what was the lesson? My past experiences have all been preparation for the present and that is an advantage, I am prepared and it happened on purpose.

The confidence that comes with this shift of perception changes the way I engage with people, growing from being defensive to compassionate. There is a #growing understanding that projecting your opinion of my process really has no power to my assignment. Your issue is not a conflict for me, it's really about what's going on with you. The more I gained an understanding of this the less I reacted to how people misjudged my process for what they were used to. Understanding how people tend to see themselves in others also helps me to recognize when I am triggered by other people's behaviors.

Culturally being taught to suppress negative experiences has felt more like trapped gas, and never provided a solution for releasing the negativity. At some point I had to accept that things are going to keep happening that are beyond my control, new levels new devils. I have the responsibility for creating ways to manage my life, accepting that my personal situation was not supposed to be relatable to the world but impactful for how I make a difference with it. Even if no one understood where I was coming from I had to grow through it and find ways to transmute my experiences.

I am discovering that making your human experience more about you and less about how the world perceives your journey reaps the benefit of staying present to your process. The harmony of you is found in how you choose to see your experience so be mindful of what influences your perception. #KeepGoing

Exercise

Write a letter to your younger self expressing your gratitude for everything you have overcome. In detail, explain how those past scenarios have empowered you and gave you abilities/skills that average people may not have. The point of this exercise is to highlight your accomplishments and change your perspective on how your experiences have impacted you in positive ways. Be transparent and open with yourself, you do not need to share the letter with anyone, remember the goal is to recognize your strengths through your testimony. #KeepGoing
